The Song of the Dolphin Boy

The Gladiators enjoyed looking on the 4 Oceans website and seeing how they can help. The children decided to make posters, including the email address of 4 Oceans to show and put up around the school. They wanted to raise awareness of recycling and how this can have an impact on helping our Oceans.

Fantastic posters Gladiators! We are pleased to hear they will be on display throughout your school spreading an important message.
  • The Dam

Rylan and Louis chose this picture because they felt like the spirits felt happy with the music-Rylan said he thought if you looked close enough you can see them smiling.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about this wonderful book.
  • The Dam

The Gladiators really love this book. They said that it was a heartwarming story, they liked that it was told by real people who this had happened to. They especially enjoyed the illustrations, they said that even though they couldn’t hear the music, they knew it was there by the way the illustrator had drawn the pictures 🙂

We are so glad you are enjoying The Dam. Levi Pinfold is such an incredible illustrator. He really does convey a lot of meaning through his pictures.

An excellent way to spread the important messages raised in Song of the Dolphin Boy. Well done gladiators - you are excellent ambassadors for Authors4Oceans.
  • Song of the Dolphin Boy

The children wanted to do a mind map explaining why litter is bad for the Oceans and Sea life. They have loved the book so far and feel sad about what is happening. They have really thought about what harm can be caused to the Dolphins, Turtles and other sea life.

It is one of the most important purposes of reading isn't it - to connect with the world and to have an emotional response to the themes and issues the author is raising in their writing. Many authors feel very strongly about the decline of our oceans. You can find out about their wonderful stories at https://www.authors4oceans.org/

In one of our sessions the children went onto the website and have done some research. It makes them feel sad when they see pictures of how the sea life and Oceans are being treated.

It is so important children are exposed to books that raise issues that affect all of us. Song of the Dolphin Boy is the ideal vehicle with which to discuss the issues facing our planet. I hope discussing Ocean pollution within the context of the story has helped the children to understand the issues and even be motivated into action! We have had some very moving submissions this month.

Pirates are really interesting characters to portray visually. Have you seen the slides showing different illustrators interpretations of what a pirate might look like? We'd love to see your finished drawing.
