Your library needs you!
After reading the poem, we thought about all the reasons we love libraries! Then we made our poster using our ideas and took inspiration from the poem. We have put up our poster in our classroom library! We hope you like it.

Your Book Barn Needs You!
We had so much fun making our poster. Our school library is called ‘The Book Barn’ and it is the beating heart of the school. We made our book very colourful and vibrant, to reflect how much fun we have reading and to encourage other children to come and use the book barn too.

17th Mar 2020, 3:36pmHow lovely, Northumberland Heath! We love your use of colour and how you emphasise the importance of reading. We would be making a beeline for your Book Barn! -

Marvellous Moon Ice Cream
After reading Mr Tiger, Betsy and the Blue Moon, we designed ice cream flavours for the different characters in the story. This was our favourite, we hope you like it too! We decided that the moon deserved it's own ice cream after saving the day and turning blue!

Perpetual Perfection
Our ice cream is called Perpetual Perfection, because it tastes perfect and the taste never goes away (at least not until your next birthday!). We were inspired to give our ice cream that name, because we came across the word 'perpetual' for the first time in the book and wanted to use this word in our alliterative title. We picked one ingredient each, so that it was fair and put them all together. We decided it would be great to put a surprise toy in the ice cream and we used the wishing element of the story to inspire us in deciding that the toy would magically be whatever you wished for. We hope you like our ice cream!

Mr Tiger role on the wall
We love this activity, as it really gets our ideas flowing and we come up with lots of wonderful vocabulary to describe our character. Mr Tiger looks very large and a bit fierce (because he is a tiger), but he is actually very kind to everyone he meets and tries to help them.
Comments
30th Jan 2020, 3:42pmA brilliant example of The Role on the Wall activity. Well done!31st Jan 2020, 10:44amHow lovely! Role on the Wall is such a great way to get thinking about how characters might be different on the inside to how they are on the outside!31st Jan 2020, 3:09pmExactly! We talked about how he Mr. Tiger looks a little scary on the outside, because he is a tiger and tigers are usually fierce. However, he is a lovely tiger on the inside and acts in a very kind and helpful way to others. -
‘I Statements’
We all agreed that Mr Glory was the most anxious about Betsy going up the mountain, because he is a bit of a worrier and she is his daughter! We decided that Myrtle was more excited for Betsy than worried because she wanted her to learn about mountains and have an adventure. Surprisingly, we thought that Mr Tiger would also be a bit worried, because it is a huge responsibility for him to take Betsy up the mountain on his back. We thought he might be worried about falling back and hurting her, as it would be his fault!

Visualisations NHP
Our year 2 RG must have had a psychic link to me yesterday, as some of their visualisations are almost spot on for the front cover of our new book! They are already hooked on the story, just from reading the first 3 chapters. We are looking forward to exploring the story further together.
Comments
21st Jan 2020, 12:52pmI can see just how carefully they listened and focused on the different elements. We are so glad that they are hooked on the story! -

Maple News!
As it has been the holidays, we didn't have time to complete the challenge at school. So, I set the children the task of creating a newspaper for homework and this is Mahdiya's wonderful work! With a little bit of help from her sister, a year 6 RG, she created this newspaper article all about the moment when the reporters first saw the deadly dragon! I'm really proud of the way she worked independently to create a newspaper, as we haven't learnt this yet in class. We hope you like it too!

17th Jan 2020, 2:08pmThank you for your fantastic entry, how lovely that Mahdiya worked independently on this! (Well done to her sister too!) -
Visualisations
Today, our Reading Gladiators worked on visualisation. They carefully listened to details of the front cover and using their own imaginations, visualised how this would look and drew their own front cover. We were all very interested to see how everyone heard the same thing but drew totally different front covers.
Good work Reading Gladiators.

Interviewing Sumbawa
Our year 2 RG performed some compelling interviews to each other today. We found out that his favourite foods are oranges and flies. We also discovered that he doesn’t like it when visitors to the zoo make faces at him through the glass.

St Matthias’ police report by Detective Gordon
We really enjoyed The First Case! After reading the book, we thought about all of the things that Detective Gordon and Buffy did to solve the crime. We split into small groups and each planned and wrote a bit of the police report. We hope you like it!

Northumberland Heath Primary School First Case report
We worked so hard revisiting the book and picking out the key events and vocabulary that we could use in our police report. We also looked at some police reports online and identified the features of a police report to use in ours. We made it huge so that everybody got a chance to do something on it and decorated it around the edge, because we thought that’s what Buffy and Detective Gordon would have done! We hope you like it.

Visualisation
Our Yr 2 RG found the visualisation activity really interesting and so did I! They loved seeing each other’s pictures and seeing how different they all were. I particularly liked the fact that one of our RG focused on the fact that the squirrel found the police station strange and drew a very strange police station!

A New Coat For Mrs Noah
We made Mrs Noah a patchwork coat using patterns that made us think of her character. The pockets holding some of our work are in the style of hands because it reminded us how caring Mrs Noah was in saving all the ‘troublesome creatures’.

Mrs Noah’s hooded jacket of many colours
It’s clearly evident how much fun our Year 2 RG group have had creating a new jacket for Mrs. Noah! I was absolutely blown away by their use of pattern and colour inspired by the illustrations in the book. They collaborated amazingly well together and it was a real team effort. They filled her pockets with wanted posters, weather forecasts and pictures of their troublesome creatures. I am so proud of them all.
