Reading Gladiators Newsletter Autumn 1
Reading Gladiators has taken off this year! The new flexible format allows group leaders to tailor their book selection to fit the needs of their current group. We hope you have settled into your weekly sessions and are enjoying the first (or second) titles from Set A.
We love to hear about your group sessions and so do other schools too, so please send us a short update. It doesn’t have to be lengthy. Here are some snippets from Northumberland Heath and Gryffidam. Thank you both!
|We have just finished our second session where we experienced Readers’ Theatre –
we really immersed ourselves in our characters and there were some great robot voices as well as some very sassy Sarahs.
|This week, we explored some of Isaiah’s wonderfully creative vocabulary and displayed them on a ‘wordrobe so that we might explore their meanings and encourage others to think about some of their word choices.|
To post an update. Select your year group from the top menu tab and scroll down to the Latest Activity window.
Remember to share your ‘Celebrate and Create’ updates to be in with a chance of winning a box of new books for your school.
?? Ask the Author ??
Now that you have got your teeth into your first books, we hope the children’s interest has been piqued and they have some questions for the authors. This term we are looking for questions for the following authors:
Sally Pomme Clayton
S E Durrant
Frank Cottrell Boyce
Kiran Millwood Hargrave
Send your questions to email@example.com by Wednesday 3rd NOVEMBER clearly marked with
- the name of the author
- the title of the book you have read/are reading
- your school name
The best questions will be selected and put to the authors. Recordings of the author interviews will be available on the book notes pages later this term to share with the children at your convenience.
Set B selection is now LIVE
Looking ahead to next term. If you have yet to make your selections for the Spring term, you can now choose 2 titles from 6 books for each year group. Here is a taster. The full selection can be found at https://www.bestbooksforschools.com/collections/reading-gladiators
One of the objectives of Reading Gladiators is to extend children’s reading repertoires. Each set of book notes has further recommend titles and you will notice that in the final session for each book we invite you to share as many titles from the recommended list, genre or by the same author/illustrator to further expand children’s reading. The majority of these books are available at bestbooksforschools.com.
Making use of these suggestions will help you build a relevant, targeted and fresh collection for your school.
Enjoy your next book. We looking forward to reading your updates.
