Newsletter June 2020
We hope you are all finding ways to maintain engagement with reading for your children. We have been so impressed with your homelearning activities, particularly from Knockhall Gladiators who were inspired to write their own collection of Clockwork stories after reading Catherine Fisher’s The Clockwork Crow. Their group leader Miss Marshall joined them in their task emboding the collaborative ethos of Reading Gladiators and the ‘being together apart’ sentiment that books enable us to achieve.
New Look Reading Gladiators
In light of the current situation: the effect it will have on planning and complying with government guidelines in addition to the impact on publishing , we have decided to adapt the Reading Gladiators™ challenge to continue supporting your readers whilst being mindful of your priorities in the Autumn term. We have adapted the resource ensuring the same quality activities and discussion can take place but with a reduced number of titles and with the flexibility to meet social distancing requirements should they be in place when you start your group.
We hope this will alleviate any pressure on group leaders and gladiators and allow the necessary quality time to spend on the books within the programme.
Introducing Year 5 Gladiators (raise up)
We have decided to add a Year 5 group to give children a boost before entering Year 6.
All challenges (for Years 2,4,5 and 6) will begin in January 2021.
There will be four titles for each year group, including a variety of writing style and format.
