  • Malkin’s Journey

All week the Stock Gladiators have been working hard on their submission and this is what they have produced. They have tracked out his journey to show key events in the story of Malkin. They have really loved this book!

  • A Visual Map

We created a visual map in silhouette form to replicate the cover of Malkin Moonlight. The children really enjoyed creating the different places and came up with the idea to add some colour for the beach and water. They also wanted to represent some of the different animals from the story. They then chose to wrote some descriptions about the different places. Our display encourages children to come and ask the Reading Gladiators about the book as we’ve all really enjoyed it so far. We found that making the map helped us to remember different parts of the story and Malkin’s journey.

    Coming to England quotes presentation

We have really enjoyed making this presentation and spent lots of time finding quotes and discussing the meanings. It was hard to choose 5-8 to go on the slides!

We really wanted to show the differences between Trinidad and England as well as show Floella's feelings and emotions. We thought it was important to end on a positive note, though Floella endured some very tough times. We also thought the quote about education was very important as it was so key for Floella.

I hope you enjoy this one Tudor Court. This edition is the perfect pocket size companion to a day out in the country. Find some swans and let your imaginations soar.
  • Coming to England

Hello from Giffards Primary! We have really enjoyed reading Coming to England and have just been creating our artwork for the mini challenge. We found so many quotes that summed up Floella’s journey, it was hard to pick!

This wasn’t the type of book any of us had read before and it has encouraged us to try more biographies and autobiographies in the future.

Hello Giffards Primary. Lovely to hear from you. Being a Gladiator means you are learning to be adventurous readers and take some risks with your reading. Thank you letting us know that you might try some more biographies. The Small People series is good.
  • Blogging on our VLE

At Stock C of E Primary we use our VLE, DB Primary, to blog and post our ideas and questions:

This is such a good idea for making Reading Gladiators work for the benefit of all children across the school. Thank you for sharing.
