  • My Magical Book Review

From one to ten I would rate the book a 6.5 because, I enjoyed the compassion at the end of the book with the magician and madam LaVaughn . I also loved the way that the author introduces each character by explaining the way that they became how they were . The negatives of the book to me were that the book used some old language such as ‘moustachioed’ and ‘Perpetual Light’ and ‘wafted’ which later I found the meaning of ๐Ÿ˜.I also didn’t enjoy how the author didn’t really FULLY explain how Peter’s parents died.Overall, I would rate the book ๐Ÿ“š OK but could be better and I’m looking forward to reading the next book after the Easter holiday has ended.

  • The Beam Blog

I like Reading Gladiators because we improve our vocabulary.
The best thing we have done is recite our poems (I performed Tree) I liked it because we got to express our feelings through the poems. The poems were long and short, so we could do poems in different ways. Everyone performed them in their own ways. It was also a different type of book to the others that ย we’ve read.

  • A Blog from Beam

The best thing about being a Gladiator is reading books and finding out about new authors. It is the best thing because if you find the book interesting you can tell other people about the book and they can read it.

My favourite book is Spooks and Scooters because of all the drama and mysterious events. My favourite part was when the twins found out that it was Bruce ย and Xander Drill who stole the scooter.

  • The Beam Blog

The best thing about being a Reading Gladiator, is that you improve your vocabulary by reading. The best thing we’ve done is perform our poems, such as tree.

  • Best Beam Blog

The best thing about being a Reading Gladiator is that you get to do fun activities, read bestselling books in the UK, ย and it gives you a boost in Literacy. The best thing I’ve done as a Reading Gladiator is recite a poem ย in front of all the other gladiators. I would recommend people to join Reading Gladiators because it’s fun and you communicate with other people about what you’ve read. It also supports you with literacy ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

  • A to Z review

In my opinion about the book just from the cover I know it is a poem book. Michael Rosen is a poem writer so I can tell it’s a good educative book.

  • The Brockenspectre – Billie

Billie was inspired by her fellow Gladiators to write an acrostic poem about the Brockenspectre.

    Boo! Did he scare you?
    Relax? No time he’s coming.
    Oh no! He’s nearly here.
    Careful!! Hide!!!
Kind? That’s not for the Brockenspectre
    Eek! Did he see me?
No, no, no. Is he real?
    Shhh be quiet.
    People, he is here!
    Easy now, move slowly.
    Careful, the ice is breaking.
    Tip toe, tip toe.
    Really? Is he real?
    Everyone quiet. Shhhh!

Just Imagine comment: ย lovely poem Billie. You have captured the fear and foreboding very effectively. Well done!

  • Brockenspectre

We’ve been reading and discussing The Brockenspectre and a gladiator in our group created this amazing poem.

    Beware the Brockenspectre is here!
    does he have any care?
    do you have any fear?

    He spooks people out
    in the unclear mist,
    will you be next
    on his ‘scare’ list?

    He makes people faint
    in the midnight sky
he traps people in the snow
    if it’s you, say goodbye!

    But is it right?
    Is it true?
    Maybe next time
    he’ll be after you…

  • Love it, but could be better.

This book is awesome. Literally! But Spooks And Scooters is better. That twist at the end… Amazing! Oh how dramatic! Flora got the spook and I was all like, ‘Oh snap! You got busted!’ It was great. Can’t wait for the next book!!!

Just Imagine comment: we loved reading your review. We could tell that you really enjoyed the ending of Spooks and Scooters. We hope you enjoy the other Reading Gladiator books. Happy reading!

  • My review

I enjoyed this book because it expanded my reading and took my interest . I normally read mystery and suspense books which is what I like but when I read the blurb I knew it was going to be a good book . Even though I did like the book I preferred the previous book ( The Marsh Road mysteries :Spooks and Scooters by Elen Caldecott ) because it’s my favourite genre !!!!!!!!๐Ÿ™‚

Just Imagine comment: thank you for sharing your review. We are really pleased to hear that you are enjoying trying new genre as well as reading your favourites. Being a Reading Gladiator is all about making adventurous reading choices and trying something new. Great work and happy reading!

  • What I think of the book and why

The book made me speechless! I don’t know what to say it was just amazing. I like it better then Spooks and Scooters because it’s more adventurous and more detailed. I think that because there are a lot of other stories linking to it, for example the wedding, the fairy tale disasters and the missing lord. The connections made it more interesting. like I said, it was just the best book ever, just amazing.

Just Imagine comment: great to hear that you enjoyed The Cake, the Wolf and the Witch. It can be fun spotting all of those connections.

  • The Book Review

It was a REALLY good book. Not gonna lie. I enjoyed it. The book was a hoot! But, there is a better book (Spooks and Scooters,) it is a mystery book and, trust me, I LOVE mystery books. I loved the ending in Spooks And Scooters. It was dramatic, as you all know. Flora is my favourite character- in fact it’s hard to decide between Flora and Sylvie. I can be like both sometimes. What will the next book be… Who knows! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜Š

Just Imagine comment: Delighted to hear that you enjoyed Spooks and Scooters so much. Hope you enjoy the next one.

  • The cake the Wolf and the Witch

I adore the story because it had fantasy and it was very interesting because they went to a made up world ๐Ÿ˜„

Just Imagine comment: did you make your own story quest? Happy reading!

  • When I first read the cake the wolf and the witch.

When I first read the book I knew it was about different story tales๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜and I loved it a lot xxx.

Just Imagine comment: It’s great to hear that you are enjoying your books. Happy Reading.

  • The Cake The Wolf and the Witch

I adore this book because of the twist at the end and all the different parts that they solved. It was an excellent and for me the best part was when he looked in the mirror and l loved it๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜

Just Imagine comment: We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the book and hope you enjoy the next one.

  • Character profile of Max

We have been using our text to find out information about Max’s character as we read.

Just Imagine comment: Hello Five Elms Gladiators. It’s great to see you working well together to think about Max’s character.

  • Monteagle’s Role on the wall

This week we have been focusing on Max’s feelings, thoughts and what he says. We wrote his feelings inside his body, his thoughts in thought bubbles and what he says in speech bubbles.

Just Imagine comment: Hello Monteagle Gladiators. Is Max the sort of character who says what he is feeling, or do you think he keeps his true feelings hidden?

  • Spooks and Scooters

    Who is the Prime Suspect?
Tony because he is left handed and all he cares about is money!

Just Imagine comment: we like your deductions. Let’s see if you are right!

  • Spooks and Scooters

    Who is the Prime Suspect?
I think it is Tony because he is left handed and he is Daniel’s best friend so Daniel must have told him the password to the safe and Tony betrayed him.

Just Imagine comment: good detective work. I wonder if you will be proved right?

  • Sppoks and Scooters

Collecting evidence to help us find the thief!

Just Imagine comment: Hello Five Elms Gladiators. I wonder if your clues are leading you in the right direction. Have you spotted any red herrings.
