Reading Gladiators Challenges 2017 – 18

We are now taking bookings for the 2017 – 18 Reading Gladiators challenges. The earlybird closes on the 7th May.  This year,  we are limiting the number of places, so early booking is advised. Year 4 continues to be the heart of Reading Gladiators, a crucial time to support and influence reading choices, when children’s reading identities are taking shape. Additionally we are running new Reading Gladiators challenges in years 2 and 6, which will be organised on similar lines to the current year 4 challenge. Details and online booking

Next year we are also excited to be piloting a KS3 Challenge.

AND… we are pleased to announce a completely new Reading Gladiators challenge: ‘Praetorian Mission’, for year 3  and 5 middle attaining readers,  who have not yet developed a passion for reading and would benefit from the motivational aspect of Reading Gladiators. Coming in the spring term 2018 ‘Praetorian Mission’ will run for two terms. The books will be selected to engage hard to reach readers, but with the Reading Gladiators core mission of helping children move beyond the limitations of self-selection. If you would like to be kept informed about this development, let us know

Best Post in April

There is still time to enter our ‘Best Post in April’ competition, to win £100 of books for your class book corner or school library. Simply post your update as usual. The winner will be notified by email and also via the website. Forgotten your school password? Email and we will send you a reminder.

Legion of Honour

Reading Gladiators are adventurous readers, they love to share their ideas and they learn from each other. But what do they do to help build a culture of reading in school? We have heard some wonderful stories from teachers and group leaders about the way their Gladiators get involved in creating a reading buzz around the school. So much so, that we have been inspired to set up a new award: ‘The Reading Gladiators Legion of Honour.’ Schools are invited to submit one nomination for a Gladiator who has demonstrated an exceptional enthusiasm for reading this year.  Date for submissions via the website by the 30th May 2017.

Year 4 Challenge Day Arrangements

Schools taking part in regional challenges will shortly be receiving information about the structure of the day. Please look out for the email, which will include the schedule plus information about the tasks who can prepare in advance and the things that you will need to bring on the day. If you are a satellite school, but would be willing to travel to join one of the regional challenges, let us know and we can arrange it.

We are now tweeting from the Reading Gladiators account @RGladiators. Follow us for all RG news and details of reading competitions and news.
